Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) increased the admission capacity for permanent residency applications from 2021 to 2023.

In order to compensate for the major shortfall in the number of permanent resident visas issued during 2020 (due to the special circumstances associated with the COVID-19 pandemic), the admission capacity for permanent residents increased from about 350,000 to 400,000 between 2021 and 2023.

Focusing on economic growth, 60% of the issued visas will belong to the Economic Class.
